INTERDEPENDENCIES -Tanks for the Water The leaves of a tank bromeliad forms a watertight bowl that collects a pool of rainwater high in the treetops. Related to the pineapple, bromeliads are epiphytes. The water-filled plant provides a home to a number of small creatures, and is visited by many more. A lizard may pause to drink. Mosquitoes and giant damsel flies use the tank as a nursery for their larvae. The tadpoles of the colorful poison arrow frog swim in these pools in the sky.
